Bangladesh recently reached a milestone registering one crore Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs), yet nearly 59 percent of these individuals did not file tax returns in the just-concluded fiscal year of 2023-24.

The government is likely to discard its plan to ask for wealth statements from the people who travel abroad, according to officials of the finance ministry. 

Tech giants such as Google or Meta (Facebook) will have to submit income tax returns from next fiscal year.

Banks will remain open today and tomorrow until 8:00pm to help people pay taxes and submit income tax returns within the given deadline.
