The commerce ministry today requested the Bangladesh Bank for keeping a certain quota of US dollar to facilitate import of six essential commodities to ensure smooth supply of the goods during Ramadan.
The government will request the banks to keep a portion of dollars reserved to facilitate the import of essential commodities before Ramadan, the fasting month when demand for certain items increases.
The central bank today allowed the import of edible oil, chickpea, pulse, pea, onion, spices, sugar and date on usance terms for up to 90 days under supplier’s or buyer’s credit.
