'We’ll see if he can play': Tigers sweat over Litton for Pakistan match

Jaker Ali led Bangladesh against India in their Super Four game in Dubai on Wednesday, which ended in a 41-run defeat, in place of regular captain Litton Das, who had suffered an injury in practice on Monday.

With the team having two back-to-back matches scheduled against India and Pakistan, and the side making four changes for the India game, speculations were that perhaps the management chose to leave out Litton to have him at his best against Pakistan.

But after the India game, Jaker revealed that Bangladesh were desperate to have Litton in the team and waited till the very last moment before deciding to leave him out.

"We waited till the very end, but it didn't happen. And from back home it was already decided that if for any reason he couldn't play, I would lead the side. So I was prepared," Jaker said at the post-match press conference.

The big question now is whether Litton will be fit to play against Pakistan on Thursday, a match the Tigers have to win to play the final.

But Jaker's tone suggested uncertainty, "We'll see if he can play, he is in recovery. We will wait."

Team sources say that due to a back strain, Litton's chances of playing are somewhat low. However, since the upcoming match is a do-or-die contest, he might risk it even if not fully fit.
