Tamim to play for Khulna Tigers
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal will feature for Khulna Tigers in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh premier League T20 competition, set to begin in January next year. The cricketer revealed the news through his official Facebook page on Tuesday.
Although there were rumours that Tamim may feature for Rangpur, the dashing left-hander has been roped in by Khulna as their icon player.
The 33-year-old had featured for Minister Rajshahi in the last edition of the BPL. However, the star-studded Rajshahi team, also featuring Mahmudullah Riyad and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza among others, failed to reach the final.
Another former captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, was the icon player for Khulna in the last edition.
Tamim, who has retired from International T20s, continues to play in franchise leagues.
The opener has scored 6886 runs in 238 T20s, including four centuries and 44 half-centuries at a strike rate of 119.63.
Meanwhile, the BPL governing council has awarded franchise right ownership of Dhaka to Rupa Fabrics Limited after the rights agreement of M/S Progati Auto Rice Mills Limited as Dhaka's team owner were terminated for failure to meet financial obligations within the stipulated deadline.
