Bangladesh women's football team are set to receive the Ekushey Padak 2025 in the sports category for their extraordinary achievement last year, after the Sabina Khatun-led team clinched back-to-back titles in the SAFF Women's Championship in Nepal.

Alongside the women in red and green, 14 individuals are also recipients of the prestigious award for their noteworthy contributions in the fields of literature, culture, social service, journalism, and other sectors of national significance.

The Ekushey Padak, titled after February 21 -- observed as International Mother Language Day -- stands as the second-highest civilian award in Bangladesh. The recognition symbolises honour and acknowledgment for the cost of the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our mother tongue Bengali language, during the Language Movement of 1952.
