Bangladesh Mahila Parishad condemns social media threats against women footballers

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) today issued a statement expressing deep concern and anger over recent threats of murder and rape directed at women footballers on social media.
Citing reports from various news outlets, the statement highlighted the harassment faced by the national women's football team, including players who have won the SAFF Championship title twice.
In a statement signed by BMP president Fauzia Moslem and general secretary Maleka Banu, BMP emphasised the importance of the country's women athletes, who are making significant strides in both domestic and international football.
These women have not only participated in numerous international tournaments but have also brought honour to the nation by securing victories on the global stage, it added.
BMP strongly condemned the threats, stating that such harassment jeopardises the playing environment and is unacceptable for both footballers and any citizen.
BMP called on the Bangladesh Football Federation to take immediate action to address the issue and find a resolution.
Additionally, they have demanded that the safety of all women footballers, including the 18 members of the national team, be guaranteed.
The organisation also urged the authorities to ensure a secure environment for these athletes, who have worked tirelessly to represent their country with pride.
The statement concluded with a call for swift action to protect the safety and well-being of all Bangladeshi women footballers.
