Players to vote for Team of the Tournament
FIFPRO Asia/Oceania has launched a new player-voted Team of the Tournament award for the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026, giving footballers the opportunity to recognise the competition’s standout performers.
The new initiative, announced on Thursday, will see players participating in the tournament vote for the best performers across all positions, marking the first time such an award will be determined exclusively by players at a women’s continental competition in Asia.
The final Team of the Tournament will be formed based on the highest number of votes, ensuring that the selection reflects the views of the players themselves.
An independent technical panel will first prepare a shortlist of candidates based on performances during the tournament, although players will not be restricted to that list and may vote for other footballers if they wish.
FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Secretary General Shoko Tsuji described the award as an important step in strengthening the voice of players in Asian women’s football.
“This year’s Women’s Asian Cup is set to be one of the biggest in the tournament’s history, so it’s only right that players have the chance to recognise and celebrate each other through a new player-voted award,” Tsuji said.
The Team of the Tournament will be announced after the conclusion of the competition.
