Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal won't run in the upcoming board of directors' election of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as on Wednesday, he withdrew his nomination form.

Tamim's decision came after a High Court bench issued a stay order on former BCB president Faruque Ahmed's writ petition, which challenged the inclusion of 15 disputed clubs in the October 6 BCB board of directors' election.

Tamim came to the board on Wednesday morning during the nomination withdrawal time and entered Returning Officers' room alongside Rafiqul Islam Babu, Masuduzzaman, Ibrahim Ahmed, Mir Helal, Syed Borhan Hossain Pappu, Israfil Khosru.

It has been learnt that Tamim Iqbal-led panel had a meeting on Tuesday night and they decided to boycott the elections, citing government interference and conspiracy.

As the final list of candidates will be announced today at 2:00 pm, the approved nominees can withdraw their candidacy between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on the same day.

Israfil Khosru, son of BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, blamed government interference over their decision to withdraw nomination.

"There is blatant interference going on in the BCB elections. There is no election environment here. Autocracy is being practiced. In the new Bangladesh, we do not want such an election," Khosru told reporters in Mirpur.

"A certain group within the government is interfering here. For now, that's all I can say. Very soon we will hold a press conference and reveal everything in detail," he added.
