Bangladesh U-19 crushed to defeat in third YODI
Bangladesh Under-19 team suffered a crushing 102-run defeat against Afghanistan Under-19 in the third Youth ODI of the five-match series at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium on Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan put up a commanding total of 275 for seven in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to a brilliant century from Faisal Khan Shinozada, who struck exactly 100 off 105 balls. Mahboob Khan provided him solid support with an unbeaten 68 off 78 deliveries.
For Bangladesh, skipper Azizul Hakim Tamim and pacer Al Fahad claimed two wickets apiece.
In reply, the Young Tigers faltered early, slipping to 45 for three before in-form batters Kalam Siddiki Aleen and Rizan Hossain added 93 runs for the fourth wicket to revive hopes.
Rizan's fluent 50-ball 52 kept Bangladesh in contention, but once he departed, the innings unraveled spectacularly.
The hosts lost their last seven wickets for only 35 runs, crashing to 173 all out in 37.2 overs. Aleen was the lone fighter, scoring 71 off 79 balls before being dismissed as the eighth wicket.
Afghanistan's spinners proved decisive in the collapse, with left-arm spinner Zaitullah Shaheen claiming 4 for 40, while off-spinners Wahifullah Zadran (3 for 23) and Uzairullah Niazai (2 for 25) shared five wickets between them.
With this win, Afghanistan levelled the series 1-1. Bangladesh had earlier won the first match by five runs in DLS method in Bogura, while the second game at the same venue was abandoned due to a wet outfield.
The final two matches will be played in Rajshahi on November 7 and 9.
