Why I prefer buying cows on the internet for Eid-ul-Azha
How long must I endure the jeers from friends who just don't acknowledge the amazing perks of buying Qurbani Eid cow online?
As a staunch advocate for this practice, I hoped that the last few years of the pandemic had given the online cattle market its due respect alongside the traditional haats but no, this message had to be penned.
How many times have you wished that your Eid cow would arrive at your doorsteps instead of you having to escort it home from a long exhausting search in the scorching sun?
It's easy to argue that the novelty of this once-a-year experience is worth the tan lines but I believe that for many, like my family, this is one of the best ways to make the most of your Eid-ul-Azha. And I know, it can be scary to explore uncharted territory but not so much if you happen to know what to look out for directly from an experienced buyer (read: yours truly).
The first thing one must know is which site to trust among all the options available. The usual ones providing this service are top meat supply and distribution firms in the country and even e-commerce, such as Daraz.
Needless to say, the e-commerce site's reputation precedes itself and hence had never been my first choice. Thankfully, this reputation does not extend to other better-known options and is reliable for the most part.
The key feature to look out for while selecting your online catalogue is the number of filters the website provides. Alongside having real-life video clips of the cows, if your preferred website has numerous options to allow you to search for the perfect cow for the perfect price in your colour of choice it's safe to call it a good match.
Now that selecting the marketplace is out of the way, one must be aware of what to expect once a purchase is made. Most companies are willing to do the entire process including the preparation of the meat and its delivery to a designated address on the day of Eid.
On the other hand, customers can choose to have the cow delivered home two or three days before Eid as per convenience. The most renowned website providing this service will also throw in a nice goody bag and a flower garland over your cow during delivery for a nice little touch. The only drawback of choosing this method over a haat is that preparations have to be made in advance if you want the best possible experience. The sooner one places an order, the better his or her chances of having a satisfactory experience.
To many, going to a haat looking for the best possible cow is an inseparable and crucial episode of Eid-ul-Azha and it isn't hard to see why. Yet, the convenience of making the purchase online is one that is worth exploring. Perhaps in doing so more people would come to realise all the ways in which this is a great alternative and resort to it like my family and I had been for years.
