Govt mulls ‘special unit to tackle hartal violence’

The government has plans to form a specialised unit of law enforcers to combat subversive activities during the ongoing blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Replying to a lawmaker’s query in the parliament today, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal made the comment.

“The government has no plan to create a separate force to tackle the subversive activities now. But a proposal to form a specialised unit of police to combat extremism and terrorism is under active consideration of the government,” he said.
