City polls: Apr 26-28 HSC exams postponed

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations of all boards scheduled for April 26-28 have been postponed due to the elections to Dhaka, Chittagong city corporations, the education minister announced today.

Fresh dates for the examinations will be announced later, Nurul Islam Nahid said during a meeting with the members of the law enforcement agencies over the law and order situation during the examination.

After the meeting, Subodh Chandra Dhali, senior information officer of education ministry, told The Daily Star over phone.

The HSC and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards are set to begin across the country on April 1.

At a function on March 24, the education minister said that the HSC and equivalent examinations will be held as per schedule despite hartals and blockade.

"The law enforcement agencies are prepared to provide security to the students during the blockade and shutdowns," he said.

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been calling a series of hartal since February 1 on top of the countrywide blockade that started from January 6.
