India's main opposition party, Congress, today moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, seeking a discussion on the deportation of 104 Indian nationals from the United States, allegedly in handcuffs.

"This House must urgently address the issue to prevent further dehumanisation of our people and to uphold the dignity of every Indian, both at home and abroad," the motion stated, as the controversy continues to escalate.

Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi told the Lok Sabha that the deported individuals, primarily from Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, were subjected to distressing and humiliating conditions.

"The deported individuals include 25 women, 12 minors, and 79 men. Reports indicate they were shackled and treated in a degrading manner during the deportation process, raising serious concerns about their human dignity and rights," read the motion moved by Gogoi.

Congress lawmaker Manish Tewari condemned the alleged treatment, calling the handcuffing of illegal Indian immigrants "absolutely inhuman."

The United States deported the 104 Indians as part of an immigration crackdown under the Donald Trump administration.

A US military aircraft carrying the deportees from various states landed in Amritsar yesterday, marking the first such large-scale deportation of Indian nationals.
