NRSC rejects proposal to ban bikes on highways

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) approved the National Road Safety Strategic Action Plan (2021-24) to reduce road crashes by 25 percent within 2024 and by 50 percent within 2030.

The apex government body to deal with road safety issues also rejected a proposal to ban motorcycles on highways at its 29th meeting at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority auditorium today.

"We are giving priority on controlling bikes than imposing ban," said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Obaidul Quader, who presided over the meeting.

He said the government will prepare a guideline for three-wheeler and bikes later.

The NRSC started the meeting around 11:25am.

Other members of the council also participated at the meeting.

NRSC is hold its meeting after a hiatus of 21 months.
