Metro rail: PM to open Agargaon-Motijheel section on October 20
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Agargaon-Motijheel section of metro rail on October 20.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader informed reporters of the development at the Secretariat today.
The prime minister will address a rally at Suhrawardi Udyan on October 20 to mark the opening of the Agargaon-Motijheel section of metro rail, formally known as MRT Line 6.
The Uttara-Agargaon section of the country's first metro rail line was opened in December last year.
Since then, the demand for trains on the Agargaon-Motijheel route has increased as the major catchment area runs through Mirpur to Motijheel.
The government is implementing the fast-track project to build the 21.26km elevated metro line from Uttara to Kamalapur at a cost of Tk 33, 472 crore.
She will also inaugurate the construction works of MRT-5(northern route) on September 16 and address a civil rally in Savar at 11:00am on the same day, Quader said.
Hasina will also open 140 bridges and 12 overpasses under the Roads and Highways Department and inaugurate the compensation programme for road accident victims on October 22, which is also the National Road Safety Day.
