Tarique Rahman’s nomination papers collected for Dhaka-17 constituency
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest the 13th parliamentary election from the Dhaka-17 constituency, with his nomination papers collected this morning, party officials said.
ABM Abdus Sattar, private secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, collected the nomination papers from the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's Office in Segunbagicha around 11:00am.
"The nomination papers were received at 11:10am from Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury," BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said, confirming the development.
According to the party, Tarique will contest the election from two constituencies—Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17.
Tarique completed his National Identity Card (NID) registration yesterday and enlisted himself as a voter after filling out the voter registration form online.
He is expected to be registered as a voter in the Dhaka-17 constituency under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward no. 19 in the Gulshan area, using the address of House no. 196, Gulshan-2.
Dhaka-17, comprising areas including Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara, was earlier slated for Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho to contest as a BNP alliance partner. In line with this arrangement, the BNP did not announce a candidate for the seat.
According to party sources, senior leaders yesterday requested that Tarique contest the Dhaka-17 seat. Following this, Partho decided to contest Bhola-1 instead.
