India cannot be considered a friend to Bangladesh, as it shelters Sheikh Hasina, said Swechchhasebak Dal president SM Jilani today.

"India is not a friend of Bangladesh. Especially since Sheikh Hasina resides there—a person who is an enemy of Bangladesh—India cannot be a friend of Bangladesh," he said at a roadside gathering during the party's long march at Bhairab intersection.

The march, which began at 9:00am, reached Brahmanbaria's Bishwa Road area around 2:00pm.

"India claims to be a democratic state, but it has sheltered Sheikh Hasina, who fled in the face of the mass movement in Bangladesh along with her accomplices. If they look at even an inch of this land, those eyes will be plucked out," said Jilani.

Jubo Dal General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan said, "We thought India was our friend. But they attacked our Assistant High Commission office and dishonoured our national flag. Are these examples of friendship?"

"India is killing innocent people along the Bangladesh-India border. Are these the actions of a friend? The entire world witnessed the murder of Felani, yet it's unfortunate that no one was held accountable for this crime. Friendship with India cannot continue in this manner," he stressed.

Jilani further alleged that India supported a "fascist regime" in Bangladesh for the past 16 years.

"To please Sheikh Hasina, India has engaged in various provocative actions. Particularly, Indian media have been making instigating statements against Bangladesh," he mentioned.

Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib added to the criticism, saying, "I want to tell the Indian government: Hasina, the killer, has fled, and there is no existence of Awami League in this country anymore. If the Indian government conspires against this country, we will build a strong movement to resist it."
