Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today requested European countries to relocate their visa centers from Delhi to Dhaka, or to another neighboring country.

"Due to India's restrictions on visas for Bangladeshis, many students are unable to travel to Delhi to obtain European visas, creating uncertainty in their education. Consequently, European universities are missing out on Bangladeshi students. Relocating visa offices to Dhaka or a nearby country would benefit both Bangladesh and the EU," he said.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain supplemented his request, noting that Bulgaria has already relocated its visa center for Bangladeshi applicants to Indonesia and Vietnam. He urged other countries to follow suit.

Yunus made the appeal during a meeting with diplomats from European Union countries in Dhaka. The meeting, held at the Chief Adviser's Office in Tejgaon in the noon, was attended by a 19-member delegation led by Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh.

The long meeting covered various issues, including labour rights, trade benefits, climate change, human rights, the International Crimes Tribunal Act, Rohingya repatriation, and mutual commitments toward building a sustainable future.

Yunus, in his remarks, briefly outlined the oppression, exploitation, forced disappearances, and human rights violations that have occurred over the past 15 years. He also urged for an economic white paper report, stressing on corruption, money laundering, and disruption of banking system during this period, accusing the former prime minister of using laundered money to destabilise the country after she was ousted.

He also spoke about fostering national unity, mentioning his interactions with representatives of all political parties and religious communities to ensure social harmony.

The visiting envoys expressed their full support for the current reform initiatives, offering suggestions and solutions to existing challenges.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to addressing the aforementioned issues and enhancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the EU.
