UN chief visits new UN Common Premises, attends flag-raising ceremony

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the newly established UN Common Premises in Gulshan this morning, where he viewed a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-UN relations.
He also participated in the official UN flag-raising ceremony.
Following the event, Guterres met with the UN country team in Bangladesh to discuss ongoing projects and future collaborations. Later in the day, he is scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion with the National Consensus Commission on reform proposals at InterContinental Dhaka between 12:45pm and 2:15pm.
Between 2:15pm and 5:15pm, the UN chief will engage in a dialogue with youth representatives and hold a meeting with civil society members, also at InterContinental. His visit will conclude with a joint press briefing alongside Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain at 5:20pm.
Guterres arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday for a four-day visit. On Friday, he held discussions with Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, and the Chief Adviser's High Representative on Rohingya and other pressing issues.
Later, he travelled with the chief adviser to Cox's Bazar, where they attended an iftar with approximately 100,000 Rohingya refugees in Ukhiya refugee camp.
During his visit to Cox's Bazar, Guterres made an urgent plea for increased international funding to address the worsening humanitarian crisis faced by the Rohingya community due to declining aid. He emphasised the need for continued global support to ensure the well-being and security of the refugees.
Guterres will leave Dhaka for New York tomorrow morning.
