Prothom Alo reporter Shams walks out of jail

Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams was released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj this evening, five days after he was detained from his Savar house.

Subhash Kumar Ghosh, senior jail super of the prison, confirmed this to The Daily Star. "We released him upon receiving the bail order. He walked out of jail at 6:22pm," he added.

Earlier around 3:00pm, a Dhaka court granted him bail until submission of the police report in a case filed under the Digital Security Act with Ramna Police Station.

Bail order reaches Keraniganj jail, Shams to 'be released soon'

Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Noor came up with the bail order upon Tk 20,000 bond with two guarantors, Chaitanya Chandra Halder, one of Shams' counsel, told The Daily Star.

Before this, counsels representing Shams filed a bail petition with the court.
