Dhaka's "Cake Potti" that recently took over everyone's social media feed is about to be no more, at least for now.

Police have instructed bakers and vendors not to set up their makeshift cake stalls near the Election Commission office in Agargaon starting tomorrow, saying the viral craze has turned into a traffic nightmare.

"The cake sellers were verbally asked not to set up any stalls there from tomorrow. If anyone tries to do so, legal action will be taken," said Imaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

The order comes after a wave of complaints, including several via the 999 national helpline, from commuters and office-goers stuck in traffic jams caused by the evening crowd.

What started as a casual hangout spot quickly turned into a citywide sensation, thanks to viral Facebook and YouTube videos showing homemade cakes, cheerful sellers, gimmicks, and long lines of foodies snapping selfies.

For the last couple of weeks, hundreds of visitors have been thronging the road every evening, transforming it into a festive street fair.

Fun and frosting at "Cake Potti" started from the Institute of Architects to the Election Commission Bhaban -- right by the Agargaon Metro Station.
