8-year-old Magura rape victim dies
The eight-year-old rape victim from Magura died at Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) today after fighting for her life for a week.
She died at the CMH around 1:00pm, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Despite receiving advanced medical care and the best efforts of specialist doctors at CMH, she could not be saved.
The child suffered three cardiac arrests this morning—while doctors managed to stabilise her twice, she did not regain a pulse after the third, the statement said.
She was admitted to CMH Dhaka in critical condition on March 8.
Expressing deep sorrow, the Bangladesh Army extended its condolences to the bereaved family and pledged to stand by them in their time of need. The army also prayed for the departed soul, the ISPR said.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and has instructed the authorities concerned to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
According to a case filed by her mother on March 8, the girl was raped while she was visiting her elder sister's house in Magura town. Her sister's husband, parents-in-law and brother-in-law were arrested and placed on remand.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also expressed deep sorrow over the death of a child in Magura, calling for exemplary punishment for those responsible.
In a statement issued today, he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
"The way the child left us, leaving us in sorrow and shame, is beyond words," he said in the press release.
