5 illegal brick kilns demolished in Pirojpur

The Department of Environment (DoE) today demolished five illegal brick kilns and suspended operations at another in Pirojpur for violating environmental laws.

During the drive, authorities also destroyed raw bricks produced at the sites.

In a press briefing, Muhammad Muzahidul Islam, director of the DoE's Barishal divisional office, said that the demolished kilns were operating illegally using the drum system. Additionally, a brick kiln using the zigzag system was found in violation of regulations, leading to its suspension.

The operation was carried out today with the assistance of police, armed police, and fire service personnel, he said.

The demolished brick kilns include SSB Bricks, Khan Bricks, another SSB Bricks, and Mizan Bricks in Kumirmara village, as well as RMB Bricks in Keshorata village.

Meanwhile, operations at MTB Bricks in Dakkhin Gazipur village under Pirojpur Sadar upazila were suspended for non-compliance with environmental laws.
