Tarique not on voter list yet; EC says can register, run in polls if permitted

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has not yet been registered in the voter list, but he may do so if the Election Commission permits it.

At a press conference, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said voters, who enrolled by October 31, will be able to cast their votes in the upcoming polls, and that voter enrollment is ongoing.

Asked whether Tarique -- who has been living in London for 16 years -- has enrolled in the voter list, the EC Secretary replied, "No."

On whether Tarique can run in the election, he said, "He can, if the Election Commission permits."
