Rab arrests one more suspect over vandalism at The Daily Star

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has arrested a key suspect in connection with the recent attack on The Daily Star building in Dhaka.

Rab-3 arrested Azmir Hossain Akash, 27, from the Tejgaon area of Dhaka yesterday, following an operation based on intelligence and CCTV footage, Rab said today in a press release.

"The arrestee was directly involved in the vandalism and arson carried out at the The Daily Star office," it said, adding that electronic equipment looted during the attack including CPU, hard disk, cables was recovered from his possession.

Rab said further drives are under way to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the incident.

Legal action has been taken against the arrested suspect.

The information was confirmed by Mizanur Rahman, senior assistant superintendent of police and staff officer (media), on behalf of the Rab director.

As of yesterday, 28 people have been arrested in the cases, 17 of whom have been sent to jail. Besides, two individuals were arrested under Section 54 of the Penal Code.
