A Bangladesh national was beaten to death on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle in India's Tripura state, Indian police said.

The victim was identified as Dalim Miah, son of Mohan Miah, resident of Madla village under Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent quoting Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station.

But family members of the deceased claimed that the youth was killed in a planned way after taking him to India over an extramarital affair.

Another Bangladeshi, Jahirul Islam, injured in the incident, is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tripura's Agartala.

After three days of the incident, Deoband Riyang, officer-in-charge of Takarjol Police Station in Tripura handed over the body to Akhaura police last night (June 13, 2022).

During the body handover, OC Deoband told journalists that some youths were fleeing after stealing a motorcycle of a teacher from Gholagathi village under Takarjol police station in Sipahijala district of Tripura.

Locals chased them on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle, the OC said, adding that at one stage, they caught Dalim and beat him up, leaving him dead on the spot and another Bangladeshi injured.

Others fled the scene while police rescued the injured Bangladeshi and sent him to a local hospital, the OC added.

The victim's father Mohan Miah however claimed that his son Dalim had an affair with his neighbour's wife.

"When the matter came to light, it was decided to settle the matter through arbitration and send Dalim abroad immediately," he said.

Before that, the neighbour's brother along with some others, took Dalim to India and killed him there, he claimed.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station, said that since the murder took place in India, the victim's family can go for Indian court for legal action if they want justice.
