Magura rape victim's condition only slightly improved, say doctors

The 8-year-old child from Magura, who is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka CMH following a brutal rape incident, moved her eyelids for the first time this morning. However, her overall condition has shown only slight improvement, according to doctors.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar shared this update, citing doctors, at a press briefing organized by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital this afternoon.
The Chief Adviser's Press Secretary also spoke at the briefing.
The child is currently on life support at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
Azad Mazumdar stated that the interim government is closely monitoring the child's health condition.
Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Hafiz, the Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for Defence and improving national unity, has been in regular contact with the doctors.
He spoke with the doctors again today and was informed that the child's condition has improved slightly. However, due to respiratory complications, oxygen supply to her brain has been disrupted, said Azad Mazumdar.
Doctors said fluid has accumulated in her brain, which has not yet been removed, but the air trapped in her chest has been cleared. They remain hopeful that her condition may improve in the next couple of days.
The child's mother has filed a case alleging that her eight-year-old daughter was raped while visiting her sister's house.
Four individuals—her sister's husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law—have been arrested and placed on remand.
A Magura court has granted a seven-day remand for her sister's father-in-law and five-day remands for her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law.
On Thursday at around 11:30 am, the child was taken to Magura 250-Bed Hospital in an unconscious state by her sister's mother-in-law.
Her mother later arrived at the hospital. That afternoon, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Later that night, she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. By Friday night, she was placed on life support.
As her condition remained critical, she was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital's PICU to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Saturday evening.
