Four-year-old girl rescued after 18 hours of abduction in Gazipur; suspect arrested
A four-year-old girl was rescued today, about 18 hours after she was allegedly taken away by a woman who had visited her house under the pretext of renting a room in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur yesterday.
A woman named Romela, 20, was arrested in connection with the incident, said Sreepur Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nasir Ahmed.
The police official said the rescued child has been living with her parents in a rented house in Tepirbari Paschimpara area in Sreepur.
Quoting the family, the OC said Romela, 20, came to the child’s house around 12:00pm yesterday, claiming she was looking to rent a house.
She allegedly lured the child away by offering her chocolate and fled before family members noticed, he said.
When the child could not be found, her father filed a written complaint with Sreepur Police Station, the OC added.
The child was rescued around 6:00am today from Chhota Sonai village in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh. Romela was arrested during the operation, the OC said.
The process of handing over the child to her family was underway and that legal action was being taken against the accused, he said.
