Former member of National Board of Revenue Matiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz were arrested early today.

A team of detectives arrested them from a house in Bashundhara Residential Area, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP. 

On January 6 this year, the ACC filed separate cases against Matiur, Laila Kaniz, their daughter Farzana Rahman Ipsita, and son Arnab over allegations of acquiring wealth illegally.

According to the ACC, the cases were filed following an investigation into their wealth declarations.

Matiur came to light after his son posted on social media a photo of a sacrificial goat worth Tk 12 lakh. The photo went viral and questions were raised about the sources of wealth. 

Several mainstream media outlets reported on his and his families' huge wealth and lavish lifestyle that time . 

The ACC later launched an inquiry into he sources of his wealth.
