Burnt, throat-slit body of housewife found in Narail
Police recovered the burnt and slit-throat body of a housewife from a house in Narail Sadar upazila today (November 4, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Achiya Begum (22), wife of Roni Sheikh (26) of Saratala village of Auria Union, said Mahmudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Roni went into hiding after the incident, the OC told our Bagerhat correspondent. The couple has a three-year-old son.
Quoting the victim's family, OC Mahmudur said Achiya, daughter of Ekhlach Shikdar of Saratala village, was married to Roni Sheikh of the same village about four years ago.
They often quarrelled with each other as Roni allegedly had developed an affair with another girl.
The victim's father complained that her husband Roni killed her this noon following the family feud and ran away, he said.
Quoting locals, the OC said neighbours saw the fire through the window after hearing scream and came forward to put out the fire. Achiya's body was burnt in the fire. Apart from this, bed sheets, mattresses, bed sheets and other items were burnt to ashes. Only they (Roni-Achiya) lived in this house with their son.
At the time of the incident, their infant was with his grandfather in the shop next to the house, he said.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The police official said initially, it is believed that Roni deliberately cut his wife's throat and burnt her to death due to marital discord. Attempts are underway to arrest Roni. No case has been filed yet.
