3 Hizb ut-Tahrir members arrested from Uttara

Police arrested three members of banned outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka's Uttara early today.
The arrestees are Monirul Islam, 40, Mohtasim Billah, 40, and Mahmudul Hasan, 21.
A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them from Uttara sector 11 and 12, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of the DMP.
In preliminary interrogation, the arrestees admitted being involved with the banned group, he said.
Yesterday, the DMP said any activities with the banner of Hizb ut-Tahrir are punishable under anti-terrorism laws.
The warning came after the banned outfit's activities were widely reported in the city.
Hizb ut-Tahrir was banned by the Bangladesh government on October 22, 2009, considering it a threat to public security, said a DMP statement.
Under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009, any form of gathering, procession, distribution of posters and leaflets, or promotional activities by banned outfits is a criminal offense.
