Two individuals, including a leader of the Students Against Discrimination, has been arrested in a joint forces operation at Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital.

The arrestees are Jidan Hossain and Iqbal Hossain, said police.

Police and army conducted the raid around 11:00am today, confirmed Mohammad Nasir Ahmad, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

At the time, a knife and four yaba pills were allegedly recovered from the bag of the student leader, the OC claimed.

According to the police, Jidan is an organiser of SAD's Narayanganj Sadar unit, while Iqbal Hossain is a volunteer at the hospital.

Following the arrest, Jidan was expelled from the organisation, said Nirab Raihan, convener of SAD's Narayanganj district unit.

A press release said, "Jidan Hossain has been expelled for engaging in activities that contradict the organisation's principles and ideology."

According to police and hospital sources, complaints had been raised about an increasing presence of brokers at the Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital in recent days.

On Sunday morning, during an operation by the army, Jidan, Iqbal, and several of their associates allegedly confronted the intelligence officers and briefly held them hostage.

Additional police and army personnel later arrived at the hospital and arrested two individuals, while the others managed to escape, they said.

Dr Abul Bashar, superintendent of the hospital, told this newspaper, "A joint forces operation was conducted due to the growing presence of middlemen at the hospital. During this time, a misunderstanding occurred with some individuals at the hospital. Later, the joint forces detained two people. That is all I know."

"The two arrested individuals are in police custody. A case will be filed against them for obstructing law enforcement, issuing death threats, and the recovery of yaba and a sharp weapon," said OC Nasir.
