Police rescued a newborn who had been abandoned on a footpath in Chattogram city’s Kotwali area early Wednesday.

He said they had information that a baby was lying in an open space beside the footpath opposite a bus stop. Later, a team led by him reached the spot and rescued the baby.
The matter was immediately reported to senior officers, said ASI Helal.
The newborn, wrapped in a towel, was taken into police custody in the presence of locals. Initial attempts to trace the child’s guardians in the area couldn't be found, he added.
