Two firefighters and a few Ansar members were injured while trying to douse the blaze at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's cargo village today.

However, none of them suffered serious injuries, said Brig Gen Mohammad Jahed Kamal, director general of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The fire at the cargo village has been brought under control, he told reporters at the scene around 10:07pm.

"Our personnel are still working at the site. We will hand over the area after the fire is completely extinguished. Two firefighters and several Ansar members were injured, but none of them are in critical condition."

Earlier, at around 9:18pm, the Fire Service had announced that the blaze was "under control." However, around 10:30pm, our correspondent reported that flames were still visible in several rooms inside the cargo complex.

When asked about this, the Fire Service DG said, "Yes, fire in a few rooms can be seen from outside, but it will not spread any further."

Regarding the cause of the fire, Jahed Kamal said, "The exact cause will be known after an investigation. Strong winds made it difficult to bring the fire under control, and since the cargo area is divided into compartments, it took time to bring the flames under control."
