Road accident that killed 5 brothers: Roktim fighting for life in ICU
Roktim Shil, one of seven victims in the tragic road accident in Chakaria that saw death of five brothers, is now fighting for life at Intensive Care Unit of Chattogram General Hospital (CGH).
Doctors said his health condition was critical and he has been put on ventilation.
"A medical board comprising consultants from medicine, neurosurgery, respiratory medicine, orthopedics and ICU is supervising Roktim's treatment at the hospital," said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, superintendent of CGH.
"He has hemorrhage in brain and he is still unconscious," Dr Rabbi added.
Dr Ajay Das, consultant of orthopedics at CGH, said Roktim had multiple bone fractures in his body from head to leg, and is now in coma.
"He has been put on artificial ventilation. We have taken life saving measures but his condition is very critical," Dr Ajay also said.
Contacted, Dr Md Sajjad, head of ICU at CGH, said Roktim was admitted to ICU on Wednesday.
The oxygen saturation in his blood was observed to be improving today, said Dr Sajjad.
His wife Sumana Sharma and four-year old son were at the hospital today while all other family members were at village home in Cox's Bazar for the post-funeral rituals of his five brothers who lost their lives in the same accident at Malumghat in Dulahazra union under Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday early morning.
Sumana said she only wants her husband's recovery.
"We have lost everything. My five brother-in-laws were killed in this tragedy. My husband is fighting for the life. I only pray that the Almighty returns my husband for the sake of my son and mother in law," she said.
Roktim's brother Plabon, who was also injured in the accident, meanwhile got released from hospital after being treated.
Plabon later filed a case with Chakaria Police Station in connection with the accident. Police seized the pick-up van but its driver and helper are on the run.
