India sends 15 tonnes of relief to Myanmar following earthquake

India today sent the first consignment of its relief material to Myanmar, a day after the South East Asian country was devastated by a major earthquake.

"Our first tranche of 15 tonnes of relief material, including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, hygiene kits, generators, and essential medicines has landed in Yangon," MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said.

India's Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur, handed over the relief to Myanmar Chief Minister of Yangon U Soe Thein in Yangon city.

The relief operation, codenamed "Brahma" by India, "acts as a first responder to assist the people of Myanmar affected by yesterday's massive earthquake," Jaiswal added.
