Jamaat postpones women’s rally in Dhaka scheduled for Jan 31
Jamaat‑e‑Islami has postponed its previously announced women’s rally that was scheduled to be held on January 31 at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, according to a press release issued by the party’s central publicity department this evening.
The statement read, “Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami’s previously announced women’s rally on January 31 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. A decision regarding this will be announced later, In sha Allah.”
The rally had first been announced on Tuesday by Jamaat Nayeb‑e‑Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher at a press conference at the party’s central office.
Taher said the programme was intended as a protest against attacks, torture, harassment and intimidation of Jamaat’s women activists in different parts of the country during the election campaign.
