The convoy of MP for Noakhali‑6 and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Abdul Hannan Masud has allegedly been under attack, after a clash broke out during his visit to areas affected by post‑election violence in Hatia upazila in Noakhali.

Hannan Masud claimed the assault was led by local Awami League leader Belal Majhi and Abdur Rahman.

The clash broke out around 1:00pm today in the Prokolpo Bazar area of Chanandi Union.

Police later rescued the MP and moved him to safety, confirmed OC Md Saiful Alam of Hatiya Police Station.

Witnesses said the newly elected MP had gone to meet residents of the Dhansiri Ashrayan Prokolpo area. As his convoy reached Prokolpo Bazar, Awami League and BNP activists allegedly opened fire and attacked. Intermittent clashes, chases, and stone‑pelting continued even in the presence of police.

"Around 50 BNP activists led by Awami League terrorist Belal Majhi attacked my convoy. About 20-25 of my activists were injured, and I was hit by a stone. Law enforcement failed to act against these terrorists before or after the election. Belal Majhi previously attacked former MP Fazlul Azim in 2018. They vandalised and looted 15-20 of our motorcycles," Hannan Masud said.

However, BNP and Jubo Dal leaders Mahabubur Rahman and Md Helal Uddin countered that Masud’s convoy arrived armed with sticks and stones, attacked the Chanandi union BNP office, and vandalised portraits of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.

They claimed five of their activists were injured and motorcycles taken.

Md Yusuf, convener of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, Hatia, said police acted as “silent spectators” during the attack.

He alleged that nearly 20 houses of NCP activists had been burned post‑election without action from authorities.

OC Saiful Alam confirmed a police officer sustained a head injury. He added that he tried to escort the MP to a safe location, and the exact number of injuries were hard to determine due to the extent of the clash.
