Lalbagh Fort vs Fort Aurangabad!

Although it is one of the most popular landmarks of the nation, Dhaka's Lalbagh Fort is shrouded in mystery and has many lesser known facts, from the fort being an incomplete, cursed project to the Buriganga once upon a time flowing just beside it! Moreover, it is technically not even a fort, but rather a palace-fortress.

Yet another less told story surrounds the name itself. It was originally named Fort Aurangabad/Qila Aurangabad after Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. His son, Prince Muhammad Azam commenced its construction in 1678 when he was the subahdar of Bengal, naming it after his father.

However, the name did not stick around at all, but we do find its mention in a few official documents.
