Coloured blue, a rickshaw plies the road in Mymensingh city’s Town Hall area while several others stand nearby. The Mymensingh City Corporation had taken an initiative several years ago to paint rickshaws and battery-run three-wheelers in two different colours to allow the two batches of three-wheelers on the streets on alternate days to ease traffic hold-ups. But the initiative has hardly brought any relief to the city dwellers. Civil society leaders and locals blame traffic congestions on narrow roads, excessive vehicles and occupation of footpaths.
