An Eid without the sari

An Eid without the sari

The Bengali aesthetic sense has been enamoured with the allure of the sari since time immemorial. This love affair is further stoked during the all-important festive season. But the human heart is known to be predisposed to whims and fancies. And when it comes to us women choosing outfits, it acts fickle and hence, foibles ensue.

At Star Lifestyle, we are mindful of such delightful foibles of the female heart, and are not judgmental at all. For what it's worth, we encourage it! Many a times, a sari may not be the most practical option either. Not to fret though as we have put together a refreshing list of outfit options that will let you express your inner fashionista to the fullest!

Festive season wardrobe can be categorised into two segments, daywear and nightwear. The beginning of Eid day usually calls for simple styles in subtle colours. A fresh cotton kurti in a delicious sorbet colour with pretty, feminine embellishments is perfect for Eid brunch. Sleeves are having a bit of a moment with flare and layered ruffles. Different details such as pleating, pin tuck, cutwork and patchwork is very hot, alongside minor details such as pearls, beads, laces etc. to spice things up. The bottoms are major right now, and you can dress them up in any way your heart desires! Every possible style is in right now- bell bottoms, flares, straight pants, culottes, cigarette pants, tulip- you name it! Alternately, a shalwar kameez set with traditional appliqué and intricate embroidery in soft, soothing shades is perfect for ladies who shy away from bling.

Use the Eid afternoon to up the ante and don something slightly glamorous so it fits almost all occasions. A cold-shoulder kurta embroidered with pearls and lace is perfect. Pair it with slim pants and some low heels.

And finally, comes the glorious Eid night, the time to pull out all the stops. The agenda is to go big or go home! Try some glamorous fabrics such as chiffon, muslin, georgette and net. In terms of silhouettes, you are truly spoilt for choice. Eid evenings call for dressy outfits, so a fabulous cape could be your outfit of choice. Choose one in a sheer, flowing fabric that has intricate embroidery. Zardozi and stonework adds a regal touch to this stylish ensemble. Another option is the off-shoulder style. Feathers add the perfect touch of glamour to this sophisticated silhouette. An off-shoulder dress or a kurta is very elegant and will set you apart from others. You can go all-out with embellishments; that's what Eid nights are for! A peplum frock is another hot style that is bound to make you look super stylish. Pair with flared pants and voila! So this Eid, it is absolutely okay to give saris a miss and follow your heart. It just might be the best thing you did this year.
