DU summer vacation begins tomorrow

A month-long summer vacation of Dhaka University (DU) will begin from tomorrow.

Academic activities of the university will resume on July 1, said DU public relations department.

During the vacation, no classes will be held while university's different offices will remain open like normal working days.

Meanwhile, the summer vacation for business studies faculty will take effect from June 14, as the faculty in a meeting on May 24 decided to continue its academic activities till that day.

In a press release, the business studies faculty authorities said that the decision would not be applicable for those sessions whose semester final examinations are going on or will end by the first week of June.

Boy dies in rooftop fall

A 10-year old boy died after falling from a roof of a six-storied building at Shabujbagh in the city yesterday.

The boy was identified as Mohammad Russel, 10, son of Mohammad Badshah of Manda area. Russel was living with his parents on the first floor of the building.

Russel's mother Rabeya Begum said her son went to the roof at around 8:30pm on Tuesday due to excessive heat following the power outage at their flat.

He fell from the roof and landed on the roof of a tin-shed house adjacent to the building when he was playing with other children of different flats.

Family members rushed him to the National Institute of Traumatology, Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (NITOR) where he succumbed to his injuries at around 1:00am yesterday.

BSMMU signs agreement with Malaysia university

A letter of intent was signed between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on Tuesday, says a press release.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof MA Majid and Registrar Muhammad Abdul Gafur of BSMMU and Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Noh Dalimin and Registrar Hela Ladin Mohd Dahalan, Universiti Malaysia Sabah signed the letter of intent from their respective sides.

Upon signing the agreement, faculty members and students of both universities will be able to exchange knowledge and share experiences relating to health research, training and publications.
