Cyclonic storm Jawad over west-central Bay and adjoining northwest Bay moved northwards further and weakened into a deep depression, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Md Bazrul Rahman, a meteorologist at the Met office, told The Daily Star that Jawad weakened into a deep depression early today.

It is likely to move further in a northerly direction and weaken gradually, the Met office said.

The cyclone will reach Odisha's coastal areas by this afternoon. It will weaken further once it reaches West Bengal in the evening.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the deep depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain rough near the centre of the deep depression.

Maritime ports of Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep local cautionary signal number three hoisted.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter and remain in shelter till further notice.

The Met office is predicting heavy to moderate rain in the southern region and light rain in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh under the influence of the cyclone. Sky will remain cloudy.

But temperature will fall after the sky will become clear in two days, the meteorologists said.

There will be no significant change in the day temperature but night-time temperature may fall by 1 to 3 degree Celsius.

The meteorologists said the country's north, north-western and central parts may experience at least two mild to moderate cold waves at the end of December.
