Local cinemas have been awaiting welcoming new releases, from the beginning of the new year. Continuing this momentum, two government-funded films are hitting theatres nationwide today.

After a long wait of seven years, "Daimukti" is finally making its debut today. On the other hand, "Boli", which has been showcased at multiple international festivals and previously released in Canada, is now premiering in local theatres.

'Daimukti'

The film "Daimukti" follows the lives of residents in an old age home and is directed by Badiul Alam Khokon. It features Symon Sadik and Shusmi Rahman in the lead roles, with Abul Hayat and Dilara Zaman taking on key roles. The ensemble cast also includes Samia Nahi, Suchorita, and Subrata, among others.

Director Badiul Alam Khokon remarked, "The film explores the importance of how we care for our parents and the responsibilities we hold as their children. It's a socially relevant narrative that audiences will connect with."

In the 2017-18 FY, "Daimukti" received government funding. After a long wait of seven years, the film is finally being released today. The film has been co-produced by Jasim Uddin.

'Boli'

Rooted in the tradition of Chattogram's historic Jabbar's Boli Khela, "Boli" (The Wrestler) is directed by Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury. The film received government funding in the 2020-21 FY. It is produced by Piplu R Khan, with Saiful Azim and Gousul Alam Shaon serving as co-producers.

Nasir Uddin Khan takes on the lead role in "Boli", portraying a fearless fisherman from the coastal region who participates in a legendary wrestling competition. The film also stars Priyam Archi, Angel Noor, Akm Itmam, and others.

Following its completion, "Boli" was showcased at numerous international film festivals. In 2023, it earned top honours in the New Currents section at the 28th Busan International Film Festival. The film was later released in Canada in September last year, and now, it is finally making its way to audiences in Bangladesh.
