TV specials on the death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam
Today, August 27, 12 Bhadra, marks the death anniversary of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. On the occasion, several television channels are set to air special programmes. Here is a glimpse of the selected line-up.
BTV
Bangladesh Television (BTV) has prepared a day-long schedule of specials to commemorate the National Poet. At 8am, a Nazrul Sangeet programme, produced by Golam Morshed, will air featuring songs on the poet's meditations on death, performed by Sumon Mojumder, Shabnam Priyanka, Mirajul Jannat Sonia, Swarlipi, Afsana Runa, and Pujan Kumar Das.
At 11am, the children's show Amader Dukhumiya will be broadcast. Produced by Nazmul Haque, the programme will feature music, recitation, dance, and short plays. At 2:30pm, the dance-drama "Boner Bede", produced by L Ruma Akter with performances by Banshori Shilpocharcha Kendro, will depict the lives, struggles, and love stories of the Bede community. At 3:30pm, the dance programme "Amare Debo Na Vulite" will be telecast, produced by Abdullah Al Mamun and hosted by Munmun Ahmed.
At 5:35pm, a poetry recital programme based on Nazrul's works, produced by Mahbuba Jamin, will air. At 7pm, Afroza Sultana's production of a special feature combining music, poetry, dance, and discussion on Nazrul will be broadcast. At 9pm, BTV will air the play "Aleya", written by Kazi Nazrul Islam and adapted for television by Kazi Asad. Produced by Mamun Mahmud, the drama stars Khairul Alam Chowdhury Tutul, Nusrat Jahan Ruhi, Tanzil Haque Maisha, Kabir Ahmed, ABM Sohel, Bimal Banerjee, Shiuli, and Soma. The play explores the complex relationships between Raja Meenketu, Rani Jayanti, and Ugraditya.
At 1pm, a duet musical show based on Nazrul's songs will be aired, produced by Mahbuba Ferdous and hosted by Ferdousi Ahmed Chowdhury. The programme, directed by Tanvir Alam Sajib, will feature Yasmin Mushtari, Tanvir Sajib, Salauddin Ahmed, Priyanka Gope, Fatema Tuz Zohra, Mahmudul Hasan, Yakub Ali Khan, Sukanya, Dr Nashid Kamal, Bijon Chandra Mistry, among others.
From BTV's Chattogram centre, the play "Jiner Badsha", based on Nazrul's story, will be telecast at 10:20pm. Adapted by Iqbal Khondaker and directed by Shubhro Ahmed, the production is produced by Umme Habiba Dina and stars Ramiz Raju, Samiha Akter, Hafizur Rahman Suruj, Sabina Roni, KMH Pamir, and Rafiqul Islam.
Channel i
At 11:30am, Channel i will broadcast the live studio programme Sarashori Nazrul, which will feature songs and poetry recitations. The programme is produced by Amirul Islam. At 1:05pm, Ebong Sinemar Gaan will showcase songs from films based on Nazrul's works.
At 3:05pm, the telefilm "Priyo Emon Raat", directed by Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar and starring Imon and Shobnom Faria, will be aired. At 6:20pm, noted artiste Ferdous Ara will present a solo performance titled "Mora Ar Janome". Additionally, on August 28 at 10:15pm, Channel i will air Nazrul Sahitye Prokriti, a special programme conceptualised, directed, and hosted by Mukit Mojumder Babu.
Duronto TV
At 11:30am, Duronto TV will air the dance programme "Unnoto Momo Shiro". Choreographed by Amit Chowdhury, the performance will feature dancers from Sadhana, including Rudmila Priyonti Chowdhury, Arisha Chowdhury, Noholi Islam Ria, Labonno Das Gupta, Mahinur Mahjabin Rup, Anubha Chowdhury, and Modhurima Roy. The show is directed by Partha Pratim Halder.
