‘The Bride’ trailer unveils Christian Bale as Frankenstein, Jessie Buckley as his reanimated bride

Warner Bros Pictures has released the first official trailer for "The Bride", Maggie Gyllenhaal's bold reimagining of the Frankenstein myth. The gritty horror film stars Jessie Buckley as the Bride and Christian Bale as Frankenstein's monster, set against the backdrop of 1930s Chicago.
The synopsis reveals a lonely Frankenstein seeking help from Dr. Euphronius to create a companion. Their experiment revives a murdered young woman, leading to the birth of the Bride — a creation far beyond their expectations. Her existence sparks a dangerous romance, police pursuit, and the rise of a radical social movement.
The film draws inspiration from James Whale's "Bride of Frankenstein" and Mary Shelley's classic novel. Alongside Buckley and Bale, the ensemble cast features Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Behind the scenes, the project reunites Gyllenhaal with acclaimed talents: cinematographer Lawrence Sher (Joker), costume designer Sandy Powell (Cinderella), and production designer Karen Murphy (Elvis). This marks Gyllenhaal's second feature as a director after "The Lost Daughter" (2021), which earned three Academy Award nominations.
"The Bride" joins a wave of upcoming Frankenstein projects, including Guillermo del Toro's Netflix adaptation starring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth. Warner Bros has slated Gyllenhaal's film for theatrical release on March 6, 2026.
