Song Kang-Ho to act in Korean remake of 'Drishyam'
"Drishyam" has successfully established itself as a smash hit in India across multiple languages. The film will now have its own Korean remake, making it the first ever Indian film to be officially remade in this language.
The announcement of the Korean remake was officially made at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
Kumar Mangat, who was part of "Drishyam", has joined forces with South Korea's Anthology Studios to make it a reality. The director of "Cobweb" Kim Jee-woon and "Parasite" actor Song Kang-ho have agreed to be part of the film.
According to Deadline, the production of the film is set to begin next year.
"We are thrilled to have an opportunity to remake a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of originality from Korean cinema," said Jay Choi, co-founder of Anthology Studios.
"The remake is also significant because it is the first big co-production between Korea and India. We will be able to bring the finest of both Indian and Korean film to create a meaningful remake that is as good as the original thanks to our collaboration," stated Jay Choi.
"Drishyam" depicts a middle-class man's attempt to safeguard his family after his father dies in an accident. The original film, released in 2013, starred Mohanlal and Meena, and a 2015 remake directed by Nishikant Kamat stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Shriya Saran.
"Drishyam" has been recreated in several languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Mandarin, and an English remake is currently in the works.
