‘Saatao’ releases today in five halls
Debutant filmmaker Khandaker Sumon's directorial film, "Saatao" has been released today in five cinema halls across Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rangpur.
The five halls in the three cities include--Star Cineplex in Bashundhara City, Blockbuster Cinemas in Jamuna Future Park, Shapla Cinema Hall in Rangpur, Sugandha, and Silver Screen in Chittagong.
Despite winning the Jury Award in the Bangladesh Panorama section at the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival, no cinema hall owners were willing to run this film in their halls because of not having any star actors in the film. That's why it has been released in fewer theaters.
The crowd-funded movie, "Saatao" is based on the lives of the marginalised community. Aynun Putul and Fazlul Haque are in pivotal roles in the movie.
The plot revolves around a farmer called Fazlu and his wife Putul. Fazlu worries that his wife will get lonely, staying at the house by herself, so he gifts her a cow. Putul now gets a new companion and begins to forget the pain of leaving her father's house.
Meanwhile, due to unfavorable environmental conditions, farmers like Fazlu start to struggle. Due to further unfortunate circumstances, the river overflows, disrupting the lives of people and animals who live downstream.
The story of "Saatao" revolves around the universal struggle of farmers and marginalised women.
Besides directing the movie, Khandaker Sumon also wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogue for "Saatao". The movie also stars Sabera Yasmin, Tashmita Shimu, Mitu Sarkar, among others.
