‘One Battle After Another’ scores record $48.5M global debut; ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ crosses $600M worldwide

Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" opened to a massive $48.5 million global box office weekend, marking the strongest debut of the filmmaker's career. The Warner Bros release, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, earned $26.1M across 74 international markets, surpassing early forecasts.

This opening represents Anderson's biggest launch in 68 territories, including France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico. In comparison with previous major titles, the film is outperforming "Argo" (+104%), "Sinners" (+55%), "Killers of the Flower Moon" (+10%), and "The Departed" (+8%).

Across Europe and Latin America, "One Battle After Another" has set new highs, with France reporting glowing reviews (4.7/5 from critics, 4.1/5 from audiences on AlloCiné). In six Latin American markets, it has already become Anderson's top-grossing release. The Middle East also exceeded expectations, contributing $2.6M.

Among the top five international markets were: the UK ($3.4M), France ($3.4M), Germany ($2M), Italy ($1.4M), and Saudi Arabia ($1.3M). The film is yet to release in South Korea (October 1), Japan and Turkey (October 3), and China (October 17). IMAX screenings accounted for $7.5M worldwide, including $2.9M from 378 international screens.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros also celebrated surpassing $4 billion globally this weekend, aided by New Line's "The Conjuring: Last Rites", which added $15.4M from 76 markets. Its international total now stands at $274.4M, with global earnings of $436M.

On the anime front, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle" continued its phenomenal run, crossing the $600M milestone worldwide to rank as the 8th highest-grossing film of the year. According to Sony, the film's worldwide total is $605.4M, with $305.4M contributed by Crunchyroll/Sony territories. This weekend alone, it added $19.2M, including $12.1M from 62 international markets.

The top overseas markets for "Infinity Castle" include Mexico ($16.6M, now the No.1 anime of all time in the country), Germany ($12.5M), France ($12.3M), India ($9M, also the No.1 anime of all time), and the UK ($8.4M).
