Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be honored with India's highest cinematic recognition, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He will receive the award during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for September 23 in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India announced on X that, based on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, Mohanlal will receive the prestigious 2023 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Hailing him as a legendary actor, director, and producer, the ministry said his extraordinary cinematic journey continues to inspire generations and that he is being recognised for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema.

Mohanlal began his acting career in 1978 with the film "Thiranottam" and rose to prominence in 1980 for his portrayal of the main antagonist in "Manjil Virinja Pookkal". 

Among his acclaimed works are "TP Balagopalan MA" (1986), which earned him his first Kerala State Film Award, and the classic comedy "Nadodikkattu" (1987).

Mohanlal's filmography boasts several blockbusters such as "Kireedam", "Manichithrathazhu", "Bharatham", "Drishyam", "Lucifer", "Pulimurugan", "Drishyam 2", and his latest release "L2: Empuraan".

Over the course of his career, he has received numerous accolades, including five National Film Awards and two Padma awards from the Government of India.

In 2022, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty received the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mohanlal's upcoming film "Hridayapoorvam" is slated for release on JioHotstar on September 26.
